IndieGoGo provides fundraising, promotion and discovery tools to the film and media industry. The platform enables filmmakers to showcase their work, mobilize their fans, and DIWO (Do-It-With-Others!).

As demand for niche content continues to grow, social media becomes increasingly ubiquitous, and the number of distribution channels continues to proliferate, the opportunity and importance for filmmakers to connect directly with audiences for assistance with fundraising and promotion will only expand.

Thus, the San Francisco Film Society’s partnership with IndieGoGo provides SFFS filmmakers a single platform solution integrating fiscal sponsorship with their audience-building and crowdfunding efforts.

SFFS fiscally sponsored films that opt-in to the IndieGoGo service enjoy:
  • Tax receipts from SFFS for donations raised on IndieGoGo, including donations less than $250
  • Discount on Fundraising (IndieGoGo's 9% fee is 100% waived)
  • Automatic IndieGoGo project profile creation upon Opt-In
  • Integrated social media and community management tools (see below)

A project’s profile on IndieGoGo is a filmmaker’s vehicle to showcase their project to the world.  Filmmakers share:
  • Basic info about the project and team
  • Upcoming Event schedule
  • Media (trailers, clips, pitches, images, etc.)
  • Announcements
  • Online social media hub (for project’s other online presences)

Each project profile is also equipped with a suite of online tools and social media functionality to assist filmmakers in their online marketing and fundraising efforts:  For example:
  • Contribution / VIP Perk module (integrated with SFFS fiscal sponsorship)
  • Share tools (Twitter, Facebook, Custom Widgets, Email Invite Tools etc.)
  • Facebook Application
  • Integrated Twitter feeds
  • Automated emails for announcements and new media
  • Fan Actions: Follow, Comment, Demand It (for fans to request a screening in their area)
To opt-in to the IndieGoGo Service, SFFS filmmakers should email Linda Tracey (ltracey@sffs.org) with “Opt-in to IndieGoGo” in the subject line. If you already have an IndieGoGo profile, specify that in the body so that SFFS and IndieGoGo can update your existing indieGoGo profile.
