 Pam Uzzell Filthy, charming, beautiful and ghetto are just some of the words Lorin District residents might use to describe their neighborhood. Years of gentrification in this traditionally African American neighborhood of Berkeley have created an area rich in contradictions and tensions. Seventy-five-year-old Richie Smith and other community activists haven’t given up on this once vibrant neighborhood. But for whom are they preserving it? Is there any more there there?
