Setting the Word On Fire
David Brown and Ray Telles
Setting the Word on Fire is an hour-long documentary-in-progress about the life and works of San Francisco’s first Latino Poet Laureate, Alejandro Murguia. Murguia’s inspiring story is that of a California native son raised in a barrio in Tijuana whose journey takes him from the earliest days of the Chicano Movement to the halls of San Francisco State University, where he teaches in the first Ethnic Studies Program in the country, to San Francisco’s City Hall as the City’s Poet Laureate.
