Mark Tchelistcheff

The Maestro - André Tchelistcheff - The Voice of Wine is a feature-length documentary that takes us on a dramatic, illuminating, poetic, and wondrous cinematic journey from Russia through Europe to America as we embrace the story of this man, André Tchelistcheff, who devoted his life to the ancient craft of winemaking. It is a true tale of an immigrant and a great American. The story will unfold first with André’s early childhood and his life as a Lieutenant in the White Army fighting in the Russian revolution and then continue on to his education and years working in France at the Pasteur Institute. From here the film unfolds the beginning of André’s journey to the New World. His early days in Napa Valley and through his eyes we see the state of the then wine industry and the history up to the time he arrived. Then we will see André’s various viticulture and oenology breakthroughs leading up to his mentoring of the many exceptional early winemakers in America. Through them we will see the drama of the “Judgment of Paris” come to life where in 1976 in a blind tasting two California wines bested the French on their own turf. Finally we will touch on his legacy - the students he mentored who have become some of the most well known wine makers in the world.
