Welcome to the Sticks
This feature-length French narrative offered a lighter look at stereotypes among residents of the north and south of France.
My students gained valuable insight into the workings of French schools, cultural similarities and differences between France and the U.S., and language practice from attending this film… My students had uniformly positive reactions to the film. They really enjoyed seeing school from another perspective and noticing the small and large differences and the many similarities between school cultures. —Teacher, Capuchino High School
The film was excellent. The students saw a side of Parisian life they would never see otherwise. They also heard French spoken for nearly three hours! They were able to see the kinds of issues people their age are dealing with in France. —Teacher, Carondlet High
I found this film interesting because it revolved around the life of someone, particularly a teacher, which we do not see so much. We also are able to observe the tough lives of those in the poor suburban public schools in France. I liked how the film used the teacher's actual students as actors, as it felt more real. What really surprised me was how impolite the students were. At my school, we would never even think to respond to our professors like that……Overall, un très beau film! —Student, Carondlet High School
