About 150 teachers attended a special reception and free preview screening of the documentary Pressure Cooker to kick off the 2009-2010 school year and learn about SFFS Youth Education’s fall programs. The film follows three seniors at a Philadelphia high school and their hilariously blunt but fiercely determined culinary arts teacher who prepares them for a major culinary competition where students vie for college scholarships. Director Jennifer Grausman was in town from New York for the San Francisco premiere of her film and was in attendance to answer audience questions after the screening—she proclaimed the all-educator audience to be the very best she’d ever had for her film. The complimentary wine-and-cheese reception that preceded the screening also included delicious dessert pastries made by student chefs from the Culinary Program at the Treasure Island Job Corps Center.
