The ever-shifting landscape of film funding requires filmmakers to be nimble and innovative. One key to success is learning to think like a funder. The fifth SFFS Film Arts Forum will take you into the decision room of Bay Area–based independent film funders Independent Lens, ITVS International, Global Film Initiative and KQED. Key staff from each will be on hand to show clips from work they have funded and to explain what qualities they seek in a project. The discussion, moderated by filmmaker and fundraising expert Holly Million, will go beyond brochures and websites. Representatives and guests from all corners of the funding field—foundations, producers, consultants and more—will also be in attendance.

PRESENTERS
Santhosh Daniel, Director of Programs, Global Film Initiative
Cynthia Kane, Programming Manager, ITVS International
Sue Ellen McCann, Executive Producer, QUEST and Truly CA, KQED
Erica Deiparine-Sugars, Director of Programming/LINCS Program Manager, ITVS

Back by popular demand, after the presentation will be the Laptop Shop. Screen your clips, trailers, marketing materials, design directions—or whatever else you’re working on—for peer-to-peer review. Bring your own laptop and materials that you would like to distribute. Register your laptop at the door when you arrive.

SFFS Film Arts Forum is the Film Society’s bimonthly information-sharing, discussion, networking, professional development jamboree. It’s an opportunity for Bay Area filmmakers and cineastes to meet one another and talk about their craft.

Must be 21+ to attend
