New for 2012: One-Week Camp for Pre-Teens and Advanced Lab for SFFS Camp Alumni
2/16/2012
The San Francisco Film Society announced today that registration is now open for Young Filmmakers Camp 2012. This intensive film program is an opportunity for pre-teens and teens, ages 10–18 to learn from first-class film professionals in a fun, interactive environment.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our summer camp offerings even further this year with the addition of our pre-teen film camp for 10–12 year olds and an advanced program for camp alumni,” said Joanne Parsont, SFFS director of education. “Last year’s Young Filmmakers Camp was a great success and generated fun and well-crafted short films. It is truly amazing to see what the students are able to create in such a short period of time. We can’t wait to see what they produce this year.”

The seven-week program is divided into four age- and experience-appropriate sessions, for ages 10–12 (June 25–29), 13–15 (July 9–20) and 16–18 (July 23–August 4 and August 6–10). The sessions offer one or two weeks of intensive film instruction, which can be taken individually or in combination. Young filmmakers in the new Pre-Teen Film Camp will learn all the filmmaking basics while producing fun short films. Students in the Learning Lab will participate in a series of hands-on courses in screenwriting, digital video, sound, editing, animation and more. The Production Lab will give teens the opportunity to produce a collaborative film project. At the Advanced Lab SFFS camp alumni will be taught advanced skills in all areas of production and create a media work that will be distributed. Pre-Teen Film Camp, Production Lab and Advanced Lab sessions will each conclude with a screening of the completed work for families and friends.

Students may enroll in the Learning Lab, the Production Lab or both labs back-to-back within each camp session. Students who wish to register for the Production Lab must also register for the Learning Lab or have attended Young Filmmakers Camp in the past two summers or have previous filmmaking experience.
