Director of Marketing & Communications for Industrial Light & Magic Miles Perkins attended.
Miles Perkins, director of marketing and communications for Industrial Light & Magic, gave a 90-minute multimedia presentation illustrating the innovative work of the renowned Bay Area visual effects company. Perkins showed numerous examples of the technical and artistic techniques created for such films as Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Pirates of the Caribbean and explained the complex process of producing them. Perkins also discussed the many different roles of the ILM staff and the importance of both the arts and sciences in their jobs. At the end of the program students had the opportunity to ask a range of questions about Perkins’ job, the types of software ILM uses and the kinds of things they could do in school in order to prepare for a career in visual effects.
Thank you for giving our students an amazing opportunity. To hear, “That was amazing and exactly what I want to do when I am older” from a jaded eighth grader is music to my ears. Thanks a million for inspiring the students. —Teacher, Mill Valley Middle School
We thoroughly enjoyed Miles's presentation. The information was fascinating, and his delivery really seemed to reach the kids. We stayed after and got to speak with him directly and that was really a treat as well. Thank you for this opportunity! —Homeschool parent
