Skywalker: Creating Sound for Film
Sound designer Will Files and production manager Jonathen Greber attended.
Will Files, mixer and sound designer, and Jonathan Greber, production manager for Skywalker Sound, provided over 300 students with an in-depth look at the art and craft of sound in cinema. The multimedia presentation explored the process of how a feature film soundtrack is created, the impact that sound can have on cinematic storytelling and the choices that are made along the way. Clips from film such as Apocalypse Now, Jurassic Park and other classics offered detailed insight into the important role that sound plays in film. The highlight of the presentation was a live interactive foley demonstration. Three students from the audience assisted in creating the sound design that brings the Tyrannosaurus rex to life in a clip from Jurassic Park. At the end of the program students had the opportunity to ask a range of questions.

Thank you for organizing, facilitating and presenting such an entertaining and educational program! Bay Area kids benefit so much from having their eyes, ears and minds opened to new artistic and technical opportunities by SFFS. —Peter Esmonde, parent, Cathedral School for Boys
I just wanted to thank you for making it possible for us to go to this outing. The youth group that attended was very appreciative and enjoyed the presentation greatly. They not only had questions for the presenters but were inspired by their responses. We had a very good discussion on the way back about career goals and college. —Daniel Maradiaga, education specialist liaison, Larkin Street Youth Services
