About Our Program

The San Francisco Film Society provides emerging artists and film professionals at all skill levels with relevant and engaging educational opportunities. The program develops artists and shows them how to shape their dreams and ideas for documentary and narrative films into fully realized productions. Unlike other programs in the Bay Area, SFFS Filmmaker Education engages in both the business and artistic aspects of filmmaking, empowering you to capitalize on funding trends, new business models and unique networking and creative opportunities.
Classes can be taken individually or by track. They are designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective moving image creator in a particular specialty, such as screenwriting, documentary or producing.

The Advantages of Learning at the San Francisco Film Society
The Film Society, with its hundreds of filmmaker members and its cutting-edge programming, is a hub for the discovery and development of emerging trends in contemporary cinema. Students are provided with the expertise and connections that will help them succeed in the fast-paced, dynamic Bay Area film scene. SFFS classes capitalize on the strategies, tactics and models that successful producers, filmmakers, instructors and business professionals are currently implementing.

Classes are held at the San Francisco Film Centre in the Presidio, at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center and other locations. Film Society members receive discounts to all classes. Enroll now.
