Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are now available each trimester to several of our Film Craft & Film Studies classes for both current SFFS members and full- or part-time college students. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need as well as demonstrated interest and intended applications of skills learned.

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must either be current SFFS members OR enrolled in, or graduated within the last year, from a full- or part-time Bay Area college, university or conservatory studying film, broadcast or film production as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Applicants must be able to attend all class sessions for the scholarship requested.
- Student applicants only: Must be in good academic standing and have completed at least two years of undergraduate or graduate work in film or film production
Restrictions
- Applicants may not be SFFS employees or members of any SFFS board
- Project is not work for hire
Evaluation Process
- The Film Society will convene a review panel to evaluate all applications and award scholarships at its sole discretion
- Treatments are evaluated based on originality, presentation and clarity of ideas
How to Apply
Applicants must submit:
- A brief (500–1000 word) statement describing how the class would benefit your work or ongoing study in film as well as specific goals and objectives you aim to achieve in the class
- A brief statement of financial need
- Student applicants only: a letter of recommendation from an instructor in your current film program or from a colleague
- For documentary classes only: a short (1000–1500 word) documentary treatment
- For screenwriting classes only: a full-length screenplay, no less than 90 pages in length (must have been completed within the last two years; must not have been optioned, purchased, in production or produced; adaptations are not eligible)
